Rawlplug is named by its inventor John Joseph Rawlings, who used the first syllable of his last name for it.
It is a fibre or plastic insert which is used to ensure the attachment of a screw in material that is brittle or porous or that which would otherwise not be able to support the weight of the object attached with the screw.
Wall plugs can support up to 10kgs of weight in a plasterboard wall. They are suitable for pictures, mirrors, flower pots and other light fixtures.
The rawlplug should be a tight fit. The recommended screw size for yellow is 3 to 4 mm screw, for red it is 4 to 5mm screw and for brown it is 4.5 to 6mm screw.
