Fibre Glass Wool

As the name suggests this insulating material is made from glass fiber having a texture similar to wool. Many small pockets of air are trapped between the glass which results in its high thermal insulation property. It is used as a loose-fill material blown into attics, sprayed on the inner side of structures, sheets, and panels which are used to insulate flat surfaces like ceiling tiles, curtain walls, ducting, etc.

It is very easy to cut with a sharp knife and simple to install. Its other advantages include not being prone to absorb airborne moisture, it does not rot, does not attract vermin, and can’t catch fire. It has a good lifespan of 70 to 80 years if taken care of. It can withstand temperatures up to 230 degree Celsius.

Glass wool is a synthetic material that contains fragile glass fibers that can penetrate the skin, therefore it is recommended to wear safety goggles, gloves, and a respirator mask. It may cause irritation in the eyes and airways while cutting. Glass wool is widely used in insulation and is available in sizes of 12mm, 25mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm and in densities of 16, 24, 32, and 48.
